Communicating with an Impact

Course overview

Course overview

The first mode of communication with this world is a “CRY”. As we grow, we use our body to communicate, for example the use of eyes and gestures. It is much later that we learn to use words to communicate our feeling and ideas.

Research tells us that human beings communicate only 7% by words, 38% by their tone and 55% with their facial expressions. It is therefore essential to pay attention to all three aspects to maximize our impact and influence. Culture, age, gender are some other dimensions that make communication sensitive and we must be conscious of these dimensions in our personal and professional lives.

Communication is a two-way street, it is as much about the communicator, as it is about the receiver. Most of us are guilty of thinking what we will say next when the other person is speaking. This common practice is the lowest level of listening. This course attempts to raise our listening to a level where we listen attentively not only to the words but also observe the body language to get the most accurate information and feelings of the communicator.

This training on “Communicating for impact” will be incomplete without the mention of the use of technology in communication. Technology has not only increased the pace at which we communicate, it has decreased the span of our attention. This phenomenon has given rise to the need for clear and precise communication, a skill that we will try to develop in this training.
