Public Policy Strategies & Skills

Course overview

Course overview

The process of influencing public policy at all levels of governance—local, regional, national, or even global—is referred to as government relations. Creating or maintaining government policy to handle a certain kind or collection of concerns is the goal of government relations.

The word “public affairs” is used to describe the interaction between a company and its constituents. These stakeholders may be people or organisations with a stake in the operations of the organisation.

Public affairs and government relations relate to the communication between organizations, the government, and stakeholders. Although they are frequently found to overlap and are occasionally used interchangeably, there is a very slight distinction between the two.

By enrolling in this course, you will gain the exposure, experience, and skills required to perform any type of role and responsibility for any function within these three areas, making you a dynamic professional of choice for difficult roles and opportunities that call for a variety of skills and multitasking abilities, thereby promoting quicker growth and career development.

Course overview

Introduction

Building ties with government representatives and policymakers in order to influence public policy is known as government relations (GR). To advocate their clients’ interests before the government, GR experts work for corporations, charities, and other organisations.

The following are some of the methods and instruments that GR experts employ to change public policy:

  • examining and researching laws and regulations
  • establishing connections with government representatives and policymakers
  • giving testimony to legislative committees
  • Creating letters and opinion pieces
  • Putting together grassroots campaigns
  • lobbying for policymakers

Governments develop public policy as a package of laws, rules, and initiatives to solve societal issues. Government representatives, interest organizations, and the general public are just a few of the many actors that participate in the complicated process that goes into developing public policy.

Political science, economics, sociology, and other disciplines all contribute to the study of public policy, making it a large and multidisciplinary area. The goal of public policy experts is to comprehend the creation, implementation, and improvement of public policies.

People’s lives can be significantly impacted by public policy. They may have an impact on our economy, environment, health, and education. Our social and political structures can be shaped by public policy as well.
