What is Extremist Violence?

The threat of terrorism should worry everyone. As a result, a global war against terrorism has been waged for more than 20 years. Although its outcomes are insufficient to stop the growth of violent extremism globally, this approach has solely concentrated on security-dominated measures. The use of violence based on an ideological commitment to causes that could be political, religious, or social is known as violent extremism (VE). They are frequently carried out by people or organizations with inflated ideas or beliefs.

Why is it necessary to have a Preventing and Countering Extremism (PVE & CVE) Program?

Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) and Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) are words used in the counter-terrorism field to describe a variety of initiatives, such as community development initiatives and military state interventions against extremist cells. The idea of CVE has been around for decades and gained popularity in the late 2000s. After learning about the limitations of CVE, the concept of PVE was developed to offer a comprehensive strategy for both current security-based counterterrorism measures as well as natural preventive measures that also deal with agents of violent extremism. PVE programs seek to prevent violent extremism from occurring, whereas CVE programs analyze the impact of violent extremism’s existence.

With the help of this Training Bee course, you will gain comprehensive knowledge of these programs and their variations to support trainee research.

Course overview

Introduction

An extensive educational and capacity-building program called the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PVE & CVE) Program was created to tackle the complex and urgent problem of violent extremism. With the knowledge, abilities, and methods necessary to stop people from becoming radicalized into violent extremist ideas and to combat the impact of extremist groups, this program strives to empower individuals, organizations, and communities.

The PVE & CVE Program is essential in enabling people and communities to take preventative action against violent extremism in a time when extremist ideologies are spreading across the globe and have the potential to cause harm. This program helps create more safe and resilient societies by promoting awareness, education, and cooperation.

We are The Training Bee, a global training and education firm providing services in many countries. We are specialized in capacity building and talent development solutions for individuals and organizations, with our highly customized programs and training sessions.

Participants need to complete an assessment post-course completion so our mentors will get to know their understanding of the course. A mentor will also have interrogative conversations with participants and provide valuable feedback.

  • Give an explanation of “violent extremism” and how it differs from other varieties of extremism. How has this idea changed in your mind since the program’s beginning?
  • Talk about the ways in which social, economic, political, and ideological elements influence the radicalization process. How can these elements be taken into account in PVE and CVE efforts?
  • Describe the crucial phases that lead to involvement in violent extremism from early susceptibility. What prevention and intervention measures can be informed by these actions?
  • Describe “soft power” and its importance in preventing violent extremism. Give illustrations of the soft power initiatives covered in the program.
  • Talk about the effects of online recruitment and radicalization.
Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned

Participants should understand that violent extremism is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by a range of elements, including social, economic, political, and ideological components. Strategies for PVE and CVE must take this complexity into account.

Early Intervention: Preventing radicalization and extremism requires early intervention. A big difference can be made by recognizing those who are at danger and offering the right support and counseling.

Community-centered strategies: It is impossible to overestimate the value of community involvement. Identifying and combating extremism locally depends on fostering trust and collaborations among communities.

Participants should be aware that PVE and CVE efforts should have a holistic and inclusive approach and involve a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, religious leaders, educators, and young people.

Counter narratives and Soft Power: Counter narratives and soft power initiatives are essential in the fight against extreme ideology and propaganda.

Online Engagement: The internet and social media are venues for recruitment, radicalization, and the spread of misinformation. The relevance of online involvement and counter-messaging initiatives should be understood by the participants by the time they leave the program.
